T-Shirt Quilts to remember or celebrate anyone!!!

These quilts were made in memory of the purchaser's husband. He passed away in January, 2009 from a long battle with cancer. He left behind two very young daughters. So in order to allow his spirit to carry on and for his daughters to understand his sense of humor/always being able to laugh at yourself, she commissioned me to create these for their daughters.

The large panels are made from the fronts/backs of his T-shirts, while the strips are made from his favorite flannel PJ pants. The backing is one of his favorite sheets.
I've completed a number of these quilts including: sorority, college, road trip, volunteer, and baby. If you want a special way to celebrate a time in your (or someone else's life) please consider one of these beauties. Wrap yourself in memories!!!!!

Nappers, Nap Mats, Sleeper Keepers...

I've been enlisted by a fellow co-worker to start making nap mats for her preschool son & kindergarten daughter. This thankfully gave me a reason to finally learn how to use my monogramming feature on my sewing machine (which is the ONLY reason I bought it in April). I am now ABSOLUTELY spoiled by this...I so wish I would've had this when the boys were little; they would've been sportin' with blankets, hats, diaper bags, etc. with their names on it!!! Of course, it wouldn't have been so easy getting rid of it. Measuring 21" wide by 60" long, my nap mats feature a built-in pillow (using quilt batting, not the fluffy stuff that will shift) and attached anti-pill fleece blanket, a carry handle comfortable for both kids & adults, and velcro closures easy for little hands to manipulate. I actually received another order off of Craigslist for one around the same time. So I have three under my belt! I have now perfected the placement of the velcro & handle, the process of what has to be sewn on first, and of course, the monogramming!!!!! I have listed them for sale on my website if you'd like more pictures!!!! Come one, come all, nap mats (or Sleeper Keepers as a friend of mine helped coin them) are rolling out the door!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Banners, Banners, Banners!!!!!

I love these banners!!! I made them with the fabric I used to make their curtains. I think they turned out really well. They are hanging on each of their bunk beds. They think they are BIG stuff when they see their name on stuff.

Another great idea I might have to try...

I found the best website this morning: http://www.merrimentdesign.com/ -- It's a "how-to" kinda website, but I found so many things I want to try. She has pillows & fabric greeting cards & these GREAT upcycled napkin rings. I may have to add them to my table as well as my offerings!!!

Let me know whatcha think...I'm not really into "fine dining", but I might have to be just to show off my newly found talents!!!

Another beautiful dress...

I had an order for another strapless dress, but this time with a halter. She loved the way it turned out, as did I. Now if I can get my camera working again instead of using my cellphone, we'll be all set. I thought for sure this fabric would be too much, but the dark blue really weighted it down. Once again, I'm working with out-of-print fabric, so putting this on my Etsy shop will be close to false advertisement...but I think it shows the beauty I can create :o)

Nap on, Nap Off, the Napper!!!!

I have a new project for a lady at work. She calls it a "napper"; they are specifically for children in daycare or preschools to put on the floor or a cot. They are the cutest things in the world! She's already provided me with the fabric for the top. The only changes I'm making to the pattern shown above is the fleece blanket will be longer than the napper itself. Also, I'm going to add a hardy canvas to the back to reduce staining and showing dirt. There's a possibility for a monogrammed name as well!!! I should have my first one done this weekend, so check out my Etsy shop for a peek!

This is sort of what mine will look like with a few adjustments.

The fabric stash...

Well, the fabric stash just got bigger!!! There were also a couple vintage quilt tops I may consider finishing. The Shelby Emergency Assistance Program donated me their fabric (I donated them five boxes of clothes in return!). I plan on making a whole bunch of new and exciting products!! I also plan on making a number of quilts for the Program, so when someone gets burned out of their home, etc.; they will have a special memory from the Shelby Emergency Assistance Program...

Goody, goody gumdrops!!!!

I got a call yesterday from a thrift shop, Twice as Nice, in Montevallo (where I live). They are an off-shoot of the Shelby Emergency Assistance Agency offering help to those less fortunate, whether by fire, loss of job, etc. The shop is used as both an outlet for the public to buy (proceeds going toward their mission) and for the needy people to come replace those household items they need. Anyway, they've been open for five years; in that time, they've always accepted fabric. Now that it's taking over the shop, they would like to get it out to make room for other items more relevant to the needs of others. So they called me and asked if I would like to have ALL THIS FABRIC!!!!!!! In turn, I'm taking all my and the boys' clothes and donating them there. I'm so excited to go pick up my goldmine!!!!
This is someone else's fabric mess, not MY actual fabric explosion which will take place tomorrow!!!

The cutest little model in the world!!!!

Isn't Jami the cutest little thing ever???? I had a lady order matching dresses for her and her daughter for a wedding. I have a model for my ladies dresses (Mona the mannequin), however, since I've never made kids' dresses before, I didn't have a mini-Mona...so I borrowed the daughter of one of the ladies at work. Her mom loved it so much that she is buying matching dresses in the same fabric for a wedding in September!!!!

It's going to be a busy week!!!

I have a number of orders for dresses. I guess everybody's getting in the mood to beat the heat in style!!!! One lady is going to a wedding and wants her little girl to match, so I'm making my first little girl's dress...it will definitely be posted for sale on Etsy as soon as it's done!!!! I'm also waiting for more fabric to appear from a purchase on eBay...it's hard finding out-of-print fabric even though it's just so beautiful...I will hate to say goodbye to this lovely Amy Butler fabric which has been so popular! Bon Voyage!!!

New Projects...YAY!

I am in the process of making a BUNCH of banners and buntings. I pulled out the Autism, Spay & Neuter, and Breast Cancer fabric this morning so I can work on it at lunch. I would like to put something like "Find the Cure" so organizations can use them at functions. I'm also going to work on buntings which I will probably use my embroidery machine to do the letters. I have a few more projects I want to do with puppy paws, Autism and Breast Cancer fabrics...I've been cutting out ribbons to applique onto pillows, quilts, etc. P.S. A portion of each of these purchase will be donated to the Susan G Komen Foundation, ASPCA or Autism Speaks organization. I hope to be able to increase my offerings as I try to advertise all the different Ribbon Awarenesses.

Death to www.qm4u.wordpress.com!

I guess I got so (or sew) used to using this format and find it easier to use. I decided since I'm not one with a big following YET, I would change to the more user-friendly BlogSpot!!! Sorry for the confusion folks, but once I find something I like, it's kinda hard to let it go, ya know????
